chemicals production dropped by 10 in January due in large part to a signi cant decline in China due to the COVID 19 virus According to the ACCs Global Chemical Production Regional Index Global CPRI measures the production volume of the chemical industry for 33 key nations sub regions and regions the decrease comes after gains were reported in both November in December The ACC noted that chemical production increased in some areas in January Latin America the former Soviet Union Africa and the Middle East However production dropped in three key markets North America Europe and Asia Paci c The Global CPRI showed that headline global production was up 09 percent year over year Y Y on a three month moving average basis The Global CPRI also indicated that capacity increased by 03 during January and now stands at a 34 increase Y Y Capacity utilization in the global chemical industry however fell 11 points to 813 percent That mark is down from 832 percent last January according to the Global CPRI January results were mixed across chemical industry segments Bulk petrochemicals and organics plastic resins synthetic rubber and manufactured fibers all showed gains Growth was strongest in manufactured fibers synthetic rubber plastic resins coatings and bulk petrochemicals and organics according to the Global CPRI
